This demonisation is fundamentally anti-Jew

The Labour party is now engulfed by a problem of antisemitism which it refuses properly to identify let alone effectively confront. The eruption of anti-Jewish hostility at the Labour conference left decent people aghast. This followed years of escalating anti-Jewish incidents in the party, causing even non-Jewish commentators to criticise Labour’s “serious and growing” problem of antisemitism. A number of Labour members have now torn up their party card in disgust. Not so Lord Winston, who in a letter to the Jerusalem Post taking issue with my comments on the…

Wicked gambling firms exploit the weakest

When will Britain admit it has a chronic gambling problem that needs urgent treatment? It was reported at the weekend that some big names in the gaming industry are using their gambling websites to lure children through games based on their favourite cartoon or storybook characters. This is despite the fact that, as reported by the Gambling Commission, almost half a million children under 16 are betting every week, with teenagers three times more likely to gamble than to smoke or take drugs. Wicked and cynical exploitation by the gaming…

Staging incitement at the Young Vic

London’s Young Vic theatre is staging a revival of the hate-inciting, Israel-phobic agit-prop called My Name is Rachel Corrie which was first put on in 2005. With exquisitely horrible timing, its previews started last Friday evening which was Kol Nidrei, or the beginning of Yom Kippur which is the most holy day in the Jewish religious calendar. A protest is being staged outside the theatre every night; with enormous decency and commitment, a group of Christians leafleted the theatre during the Yom Kippur performances. Last July Jonathan Hoffman, who is involved…

In conversation with Tuvia Tenenbom

The best-selling author Tuvia Tenenbom, who peels away society’s polite fictions to expose the soft underbelly of prejudice beneath, turns his attention in his latest book Hello Refugees to Europe’s migrants. I shall be in conversation with him to discuss what he found out about them, and about the Americans he encountered in his previous book The Lies They Tell , on Monday October 9 at 7.30 pm at the Menachem Begin Heritage Centre in Jerusalem.

The faces said it all

Musab Hassan Yousef is the so-called “Green Prince”. The son of one of the founders of the Hamas, Yousef turned against that terrorist organisation and became such a supporter of Israel that this Ramallah-born Arab served for some years as an informant for the Israeli Shin Bet security service. Thus much is well known: there is a book and even a movie about this man. Nevertheless, when the campaigning group UN Watch brought him to speak to the UN no-one seems to have expected what was coming. The reaction was…

The hen-house votes for the fox

Interpol, the world’s largest international police organisation, today accepted the “State of Palestine” as a full member. The Palestinians’ membership bid was accepted with 75 countries voting yes, 24 voting no, and 34 abstaining. The Times of Israel reports: “Israel fiercely objected to the Palestinians joining Interpol, arguing that Ramallah’s alleged support for terrorism could hinder rather than aid Interpol’s efforts.” You don’t say. This is totally nuts at every level. What is this “State of Palestine” Interpol has now accepted? Where are its borders? Does it include the terror-statelet…

Warped thinking on cannabis legalisation

Four men had to be rescued last weekend from England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, after becoming “incapable of walking due to cannabis use”. Said Cumbria police: “Words fail us.” Well, yes. Does everyone agree that these men placed an irresponsible burden on a public service? Apparently so. Does everyone agree that the use of cannabis should be discouraged to reduce its irresponsible burden on society? Well, no; quite the opposite. For free-marketeers, this evidence of devastating harm to individuals and society is irrelevant. Nothing can be allowed to dent their…
