Earlier this year in the east London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Newham, posters suddenly sprouted in the streets declaring: ‘You are entering a Sharia controlled zone. Islamic rules enforced.’

During the past 24 hours, Israel has been under sustained rocket attack from Gaza. Some 35 rockets and mortar shells were fired deep into the country, killing one man in Ashkelon and injuring four other people elsewhere.

For many years, Professor Sari Nusseibeh has been regarded as the epitome of Palestinian moderation. The urbane president of al Quds university in east Jerusalem, he has been regarded as a “two-state solution” moderate. His actual advocacy of a one-state solution and the swallowing up of Israel has been unaccountably ignored.

Well that didn’t take long, did it? From the moment the British, French and Americans went to war in Libya to depose Col Gaddafy in order to ‘liberate’ the Libyans from a tyrannical and oppressive regime, I warned that Messrs Cameron, Sarkozy and Obama were all too likely to bring to power something that would be even worse – an Islamist regime that would not only even more oppressively enslave the Libyans but would also be hostile to the west.

Last Monday, I wrote a column in the Daily Mail about the moral crisis in nursing which was causing untold distress to many patients, particularly the elderly and incapable. I blamed this on a seminal change in the way nursing viewed itself at the root of which lay an extreme form of feminism.
